"Fantasy Bracelet - Intro to Basic soldering" Class Kit for Glass Dragons virtual class.
Date: Sunday, Sept. 22, 1-5pm (EDT)
Description: Learn the basic concepts of silver soldering while creating an eclectic bracelet of different links. Various types of silver stock will be demonstrated providing students the opportunity to learn numerous techniques and styles to tailor their bracelets. By the end of this class you will have an understanding of necessary tools and materials to successfully solder simple joints. Students will complete a bracelet by the end of class.
Materials Kit: Enough material for one 8" bracelet (sterling silver stock, sterling silver Bali bead caps (may vary), liver of sulfur, dowel rod, sand paper, shipping). Student must source their own beads, holes must be at least 2mm.)
Deadline to order kit to receive in time for class, Sept. 12, 2024. If tools are ordered, kit and tools will be shipped together on Sept. 12, 2024.
Required Tools: (not included in materials kit, purchased separately)
- Soldering kit (or equivalent): butane torch, fire tweezers, pickle (Sparex), copper tongs, solder board, silver solder (paste preferred): Medium ***
- Sharpie
- Flush side cutters
- Heavy duty side cutters
- Chain nose pliers
- Flat nose pliers
- Multi-looping pliers or round nose pliers
- Needle files
- Ruler
- Half-round/flat pliers (optional)
- Bowl of warm water (will need at the end of class)
- Chasing hammer (optional, but helpful)
- Bench block (optional, but will need if using chasing hammer)
- Quench bowl (not plastic)
- Pickle pot (mini crock pot)
- Tumbler (optional)
***If not purchasing a complete soldering kit, items may be ordered separately. A jeweler's torch of any kind will work for this project.
