Description: Explore four different techniques for creating silver pieces that look detailed and delicate, and seem substantial but are light and comfortable. We practice two styles of quilling, punching, folding, shaping, and use the unique characteristics of Paper Type silver to form our crisp shapes. Art Clay Paper Type handles initially like paper, but is fired to .999 silver, making for a wild mash-up of papercraft and metalworking. While our class pieces are designed to introduce us to specific combinations of skills, each of these can be employed and recombined in countless ways for limitless future design possibilities, from mimicking the look of filigree to creating beautiful silver bouquets. Time permitting, artists may be able to practice their own mix of techniques using their leftover provided Paper Type.
